My History

My dad has always had motorbikes and was particularly keen on Scrambling so there was no doubt that my elder brother Sam and I would follow in his footsteps.   Dad now enjoys restoring classic motorcycles (when he has the time!!) Mick on a Bultaco
Sam Danby Sam was competing in trials from the age of 7 years and was very good. He was riding at the same time as Tommy Sagar and beat Tom on a few occasions.    Sam then found that his passion was for football and left the Trials scene.
Although I had been riding since the age of 5 years on a PW50 I now had the chance to see if I enjoyed riding the TY80 – I did – and there was no stopping me.     I then progressed onto a Beta 50 which was a present at Christmas time.    At this time every spare minute I was out riding in the orchard during the weekends and especially after I came home from School Ross Danby

For a bit of fun I entered my first local club trial (Stourbridge Motorcycle Club) and to my amazement I won my class which was the Youth ‘B’.    I continued to enter all the local trials hosted by the Dudley and Bewdley Motorcycle Clubs.
I then progressed to the Heart of England Trials which were run primarily for the youth riders.    It is here that I want to thank the late Les Garrett for his support and efforts in hosting such a marvellous club where he was always 100% behind me and many other riders and without his commitment I feel I would not be where I am today.    Les saw my potential and suggested to Dad that I entered the British National Youth trials.

This we did back in 2001 unfortunately this was the same year as the Foot and Mouth epidemic.   Like many other riders there was only one round held that year and the overall positions were made on this one event.    I was very pleased at coming 4th on the day in the ‘C’ class which gave me 4th overall.

It was then suggested that we contested the YMSA events and this is where I would like to thank Steve and Lynne Smith for all their hard work and efforts again for being behind myself and many other talented riders and for putting on such good events. The YMSA club is now run by Barry Burton and Ian McConnachie and I am looking forward to continuing to support the YMSA events in 2006.

I am looking forward to 2006 which I know is going to be very hectic and I trust my employers and family are going to be understanding as we head all around the British Isles and over Europe and who knows USA and Japan – so watch this space!!
